Matīss received a bachelor's degree in business and economics from Stockholm University and a master's degree in finance from Lund University.

In 2022, he began working in the Monetary Policy Department of Latvijas Banka. He is currently responsible for analyzing monetary indicators, including lending, deposits, and interest rates.
