Euro Video Challenge

The European Central Bank (ECB) is inviting young people to take part in a Video Challenge with the aim of explaining economic topics in a simple, entertaining audio-visual form.

Rules:

  • participants should fall in the age group 18 to 30 ;
  • the length of the video should not exceed 2 minutes 20 seconds
  • the video must be on an economic topic related to the activities of the European Central Bank;
  • the deadline for submissions is 24 September 2017. 

Prizes

Both individuals and teams can participate. The authors of the best video will be invited  to attend the award ceremony at the 10th anniversary of the economics conference Les Journées de l’économie (Jéco) on 9 November 2017 in Lyon, France.

First prize winners will receive 4,000 euro.

Subject to the jury’s decision regarding the quality of the video, second and third prizes can also be awarded in the amount of 3,000 euro and 2,000 euro, respectively.

The best videos may be featured in the social networks of the ECB and Jéco .

 

How to enter?

1. Make a video!

·         The video must be entertaining and simple. It must be accessible by young people even without preliminary knowledge.  

·         The video can be made in English, French, German, Italian or Spanish. It must be in landscape format and not exceed 2 minutes and 20 seconds in length. You must also submit a script (of no more than 1,500 words).

·         Proposed topics:

o    Why does Europe need a single currency?

o    Why not a world currency?

o    Does the value of the euro against the dollar matter?

o    Why is too much debt a problem? Is the problem public or private sector debt?

o    Why is high inflation a problem?

o    Should troubled banks be given public money?

o    What will money look like in the future?

o    Can monetary policy reduce social inequality?

o    Do those working in the euro area need to be more mobile?

Participants can also choose a different topic related to economics and the ECB activities.  

 

Registration and submission

Participants are urged to register their participation and submit their works by 24 September 2017.
