Juris Kravalis holds a Bachelor's Degree in Finances and a Master's Degree in International Affairs from the Institute of International Affairs of the University of Latvia. He started his career at the International (former Foreign Relations) Department of Latvijas Banka in 1995 and was promoted to the position of the Head of the Department in 2002. As of 1 November 2010, Juris Kravalis is the Head of the International Relations and Communication Department.

Juris Kravalis worked for the International Monetary Fund in Washington from 2005 to 2007.

He has extensive knowledge about the activities of the international financial institutions and broad experience in cooperation with these institutions. As the Head of the International Relations and Communication Department, Juris Kravalis is also in charge of analysing the world's economies and ensuring cooperation with the international financial institutions. Juris Kravalis is an Member of the Economic and Financial Committee and, within the scope of his competence, also represents the Bank of Latvia on the International Relations Committee of the European System of Central Banks and at the Nordic-Baltic meetings of relevant level.
